The Challenge of Global Bio-fouling

Today at #METSTRADE – Sonihull was invited to take part in the expert panel discussion at the show’s I-nnovation Lab.

Dominic Findlow, Sonihull’s technical Director joined industry leaders to discuss the legislative, operational and environmental challenges of global biofouling.

The panel was hosted by Albert Willemsen, Environmental Consultant, ICOMIA and was also attended by: Dr Gareth Prowse – Chair, AntiFouling Coating Committee at IPPIC (International Paint and Printing Ink Council.) Other panellists included:

Manon van Meer – Manager, Sustainability and Funding, at Waterways Netherlands

Dan Reading – Sustainability Programme Manager, World Sailing

Rik Breur, Managing Director, Finsulate antifouling fibre wrap

“It is essential that the world’s antifouling system manufacturers look forward to a future of zero-harm solutions,” said Dominic Findlow.

“Leaching poisonous biocides into the oceans and leaving a trail of microplastics in the wake of every vessel, is not sustainable”

“Biofouling costs the marine sector over $100 billion every year.

Sonihull already has proven ultrasonic systems that work to prevent the settlement of biofouling on any hard surface that is exposed to raw seawater.”
